| I had an interesting interaction with an ultrarunner coworker today. And after reading the cool post by Aquaman, I wanted to get your thoughts.
He has found himself almost "accidently" perfectly trained for a 100 miler in September. It's local, not terribly expensive. I'm not sure he expected his year to go so well (a few 50s, and some pacing experience). Here's the conflict.....
It's the same day as his 5 year old son's first soccer game. He's the coach (yes, there is an assistant coach). His wife told him that he is committed to that game.
Now, I admit my view is warped since I'm into the long stuff. And because I have a 10 year old son who is a fabulous athlete and it seems never ending. We do what we have to do to balance it all. I admit that I don't see every single game or practice of his. My son knows exactly what my sport is about, and we are proud of each other. Also, my SO is into it, so there's a much more balanced support there as well.
So I had the opinion of: Really? They are 5 years old. It's a 40 minute game. The games go on for weeks. There's not another 100 till next year.
While others were more like: It's the kid's first game. He has to be there. Even if he wasn't the coach.
What say you??? Needless to say they had me questioning my mothering skills!! | |
